This Year's Model Updates:

More power for the 4.7-liter V8 and three new trim levels (SE, Sport and Overland) are on tap for this year. Also, several important safety and convenience options such as side curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, a tire-pressure monitoring system and automatic windshield wipers debut this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

Lots of trouble with rotors. Both front windows had to have regulators replaced ... right after warranty expired. Transmission problems. Trouble with check engine light staying on.

Great SUV!! I recommend it to anyone! Great value for the money! Bought it new and now have 12,000 miles on it. No problems with it at all. Ive taken it to the scheduled maintenance appointments and thats it. I bought it while the 7/100,000 was still standard which Im happy about because it gives me a piece of mind. Rides great and I get 18-19 mpg in mixed driving and about 23 mpg on the highway. I have all options except sunroof and heated seats. Looks great and the inline 6 has enough power for what I need. (I dont tow anything) I plan on keeping this car for a loooooooong time.

Second jeep I buy. I live in Colorado so I do go off road often (driving in a graded dirt road is not going off road so I really mean it). Last March we got a big winter storm that put 4 feet of snow (yes like in 48 inches) in my driveway and I was able to drive out the next day. The guy with the F350 superduty got stuck, the Explorers were hopeless, the guy in the 4 Runner couldnt make it and the snow plow broke the blade trying to follow me (no exageration). The JGC is not perfect but as long as I live where I live I will keep Jeeping.

Had 87 and 88 Cherokee -- over 200k on both. 20-22mpg and few problems. 2002 gets 17mpg, oil leak (rear seal). Computer replaced. Main wiring harness replaced. Rotors replaced. Axle seals replaced. Front axle bearings. Radio/cd replaced. Rear seal again...need I go on? More problems not listed. Hood paint coming off. Still owe over $12,000. Trade in value $10,000. Stay away!

  • Nice Looks, Poor reliability - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I love the look and comfort of my 2002 Laredo but... I bought this Jeep used at 36,000 miles last September. Here it June with almost 57,000 miles and my air conditioning is broken for the 2nd time...not too nice in Florida in the summer. I have a power steering leak and the leather on my drivers seat is starting to crack and separate at the seams. Also, on the overhead console, the coolant low warning keeps beeping at the cars start up but the coolant level and quality is fine. I would really love another one that works great but I think Ill be trading mine in for another brand as soon as I get the air conditioner fixed this month.

Overall, a solid buy. Like the comfortable seating. Could definitely use improvements in AC, mileage.

I was the second owner for this vehicle and I have never regretted buying it. I had just gone through a divorce and had to travel across country. I have never had any problems with my jeep except the recall on the radiator which was fixed right away. Ive changed the tires once and have only had to change the oil and transmission fluid. Im about to sell it now at 17,000 miles and am very afraid I will not find a vehicle as reliable. I highly recommend this year for a Jeep if it is a I6!

Where to start?! I have had nothing but problems in 2 years of ownership. Loud dashboard rattles and vibration, only to be told "thats what the radio volume is for." Speaking of the radio, Ive had 2 of them stop working completely. My stearing column had to be replaced because of loud "crack" that it made on left hand turns, and now the new column is doing the same thing. This time, rather than replace the column, the dealer claims it is "normal." My heated seat stopped working, my seatbelts no longer retract, and Ive had the brakes replaced due to a recall. Im trading it in for a 4Runner this week, and NEVER buying Jeep again.

  • Re-paired "bi-monthly" Jeep - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Never saw this one coming. Our Jeep is on its 3rd set of rotors, brakes, front caliper bracket. Also front hubs have been done. Rear rotors also warped replaced also. Fan assembly replaced (dealer fix) 3 power window regulators !Gauges reading off. Oil, temp they are reading on the highside. Was told it could be the whole cluster. Needs a new one.! Front end tie-rods both sides replaced. And lets see o2 sensor. And passenger door needs a hinge repair. The weld is pulling away from the door frame. Also it needs rear seal leak repair. Now I do not offroad this truck at all. If so I would exspect some of the things that have gone wrong. But this is unreal. Never again its a Jeep thing alright:
